Aspley families can pick up a free native plant and get smart tips on saving power and water when the sustainability pop-up hits the Hypermarket this weekend.
Locals Are Invited to Take Home Free Native Plants This Weekend
Residents in Aspley will have a unique opportunity to green their gardens for free this weekend, with 500 native plants being given away at a pop-up stall hosted at the Aspley Hypermarket.

The Free Native Plant Pop-Up will kick off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, 12 April 2025, and run until all plants are collected. Held in partnership with Brisbane City Council’s Free Native Plants Program, the event is organised by the Brisbane Sustainability Agency to encourage sustainable gardening in local communities.
What the Event Offers
The pop-up is part of a city-wide effort to boost biodiversity and promote low-maintenance native plants in Brisbane homes. Attendees can collect one of 500 free plants on a first-come, first-served basis, so early arrival is encouraged.

The event also features the Brisbane Carbon Challenge, where residents can assess their carbon footprint and get advice on cutting emissions and saving on energy and water bills. Organisers say the goal is to inspire small, sustainable changes for a greener Brisbane.
Why Native Plants Matter
Native plants need less water, adapt well to local conditions, and attract wildlife like birds and bees. The Free Native Plant Program helps make these plants more accessible across Brisbane suburbs.
To support new gardeners, a simple care guide is provided with tips on soil prep, planting, and maintenance. This initiative reflects Brisbane’s push for practical, community-level climate action and aims to strengthen residents’ connection to their environment.
Getting There and What to Bring
Organisers encourage attendees to walk, cycle, or use public transport to align with the event’s sustainability focus. The stall will be at Aspley Hypermarket on Albany Creek Road, accessible by several bus routes.
No registration or documents are needed to claim a plant, but with limited supply, plants will only be available until they run out.
