A new case of measles has been confirmed and Brisbane residents, particularly those in Metro North, are being alerted.
A child was found to have developed symptoms of the disease after spending a holiday outside the country.
According to Queensland Health, the kid visited several locations in North Brisbane, including Just Pharmacy at Murrumba Downs Shopping Centre on Tuesday 2 July sometime between 7:00 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. The child also visited Taigum Square Shopping Centre between 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. on Friday 5 July.
People who have visited said locations are urged to seek medical attention should they think they have contracted the contagious disease.
Symptoms include fever, dry cough, sore and red eyes, runny nose, and red and bluish spots inside the mouth. Red and blotchy skin rash would appear on the face and hairline and eventually would spread throughout the body. These symptoms usually happen 10 to 12 days after infection.
The disease is usually transmitted through cough or sneeze droplets from the infected individual. The virus can stay in the mucus or saliva droplets for several hours. Individuals can also contract the disease by touching contaminated objects and then touching their mouth or nose.
The new case is the fourth reported in the Metro North area so far this year.
